Like the bigger Bronco, the 2023 Ford Bronco Sport is all about fun, including time on the trail. Even with the base edition, the compact SUV has sporty on-road handling and off-road capability.
Shoppers can find more ways to personalize this ride. This model year there are more color choices and additional advanced technologies. 2023 Heritage and Heritage Limited editions offer an all-new, yet throwback style.
You can get to know the Bronco Sport SUV in this extended review. Keep scrolling to see if this model is living up to the Bronco nameplate.
Clever Looks and Design Elements
These compact SUVs don’t look like every other ride on the road. They have a sporty curb appeal that sets them apart even from the regular Bronco models.
Using modern techniques to blend classic elements, flat sides are topped off by a safari-style roof. An encapsulated cartridge grille is flanked by round headlamps.
Ensuring the best approach/departure angles, the front and rear overhangs are kept short. Ford uses a tough unpainted surface on certain contact points. Along with skid plates, these measures help preserve the look of the SUV as well as the vitality of its essential components.
Always colorful, this lineup has even more ways to personalize the look inside and out. Depending on the trim, you can get the roof in Oxford White, Shadow Black, or Carbonized Gray. Exterior colors include metallics in alto blue, cyber orange, iconic silver, and bronze smoke. Other hues include Hot Pepper Red and Cactus Gray.
2023 Bronco Sport Heritage Editions
For a distinctive look, the Bronco Sport Heritage and Heritage Limited editions have throwback elements with a modern style. Oxford White roofs match the Oxford White heritage grille. It wears Race Red BRONCO lettering. White-painted or white-accented wheels add to the fun.
These models have special interiors with a special plaid in heathered Navy Pier microsuede. Oxford White dresses different dash and door elements. Accent stitching is in race red and robin’s egg blue. MOLLE storage on the seatbacks has red zipper grips and navy pier straps.
Heritage Limited trim levels use leather upholstery with the Navy Pier inserts for a more upscale look and feel. There is more Oxford White detailing. The exterior adds front fender badging with Bronco lettering in metal script.
The Heritage is outfitted like the Big Bend model. The Heritage Limited is based on the Badlands model. If you want to get details about Bronco Sport prices, you can get a quick quote on your favorite trim level from your Earnhardt Ford dealer serving Phoenix AZ.
Performance and Handling
This ride was made to look fun, and it is actually capable of much more than the average compact SUV. It starts with its HOSS independent front and rear suspension. Tested on difficult terrain, the high-performance off-road stability suspension makes every Bronco Sport ready for the trail.
Four wheel drive systems, specially developed for this small SUV, are standard across the lineup. The Terrain Management System has 5 or 7 GOAT modes. GOAT is short for “go over any type of terrain”.
The standard system includes slippery mode for weather challenges and sand mode for off-roading. Bronco Sport Badlands drivers have Mud/Ruts and Rock Crawl modes to assist with more challenging terrain.
Fuel efficient and smart, the 1.5-liter Ecoboost engine generates 181 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque. An 8-speed automatic transmission provides a broad gear range for better road travel and enhanced slow-speed trail riding.
With the 2.0-liter Ecoboost, the output is 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. The Badlands trim emphasizes high-speed off-road performance utilizing this engine, an additional transmission cooler, and a rear-drive cooler. Schedule a test drive at our Phoenix AZ Ford dealership.
More Off Roading Capability
The ultimate off-roading is easier with four metal bash plates. Badlands models can ford up to 23.6 inches of water through a combination of high ground clearance, tight build, and waterproofing.
To adjust to what rocky terrain does to handling, the Rock Crawl mode alters how the electronic power steering assist system responds to commands. This gives the driver more precision when dealing with low-speed maneuvers on difficult trails.
When Trail Control is in play, this cruise-control type feature regulates speed at slow speeds up to 20 mph. It even helps with slow speeds in reverse up to 6 mph.
For better visuals, the available 180-degree front camera can reveal hidden obstacles ahead. It has a lens washer to ensure it works when the off-road driver needs it.
Spaciousness and Storage
An upright design allows the SUV to have remarkable headroom on both rows. It also means the cargo hold is tall enough to accommodate a pair of mountain bikes with the clever Yakima cabin bike rack. A low-load floor makes loading and unloading easier. The liftgate has a flip up window, which means the owner has two access points to get into the cargo hold.
Available liftgate LED flood lamps can light up 129 square feet, helping with camping set-up after dark. There’s also a 5-way cargo management system with a helpful slide-out working table. Additional possibilities include zippered seatback pockets and an underseat storage bin. MOLLE straps provide ways to carry gear safely.
Standard Features
Cockpits are packed with the latest technologies from the rotary gear shift dial to the dash screen. A media hub puts smart-charging USB ports in easy reach. FordPass Connect lets you claim a WiFi hotspot for up to 10 devices. It adds a remote starter and related tech tools.
A Sync 3 touch screen provides dash entertainment via voice, touch, and steering-wheel mounted controls. Further voice controls and more apps are easy to claim with your smartphone and Apple CarPlay or Android Auto compatibility. An acoustic laminated windshield helps keep the ride quiet.
Ford CoPilot360 technology provides a broad array of driver assists. If sensors detect crash impact, post-collision braking intervenes to try to prevent further damage. To avoid side crashes, it has a lane keeping assist, a blind spot information system, and a cross-traffic alert. An acoustic laminated windshield helps keep the ride quiet.
To avoid forward collision dangers, the frontal collision system warns the driver when the cars ahead are stopping too fast for the SUV’s speed. Then it provides dynamic brake support and, if necessary, automated braking. Pedestrian detection can similarly warn and assist the driver.
Big Bend Trim Level
Big Bend models have more technology such as a keyless start button with Intelligent Access. The rearview camera gets a washer function. The air conditioning is updated with automatic temperature controls. SiriusXM connectivity is added to the dash tech. Other details include rear air ducts, a rear seat armrest, better front-row sun visors, heated side mirrors, and liftgate privacy glass.
For off-roading, the MOLLE straps system is ready to keep your gear in place. The rubberized cargo floor can be rinsed and drained. Even the unique cloth upholstery is easy to clean.
A package adds adaptive cruise control, lane centering, speed sign recognition, and evasive steering assist. This adds the voice-activated navigation system with the more advanced touch-screen.
The convenience package adds an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s chair. It also adds exterior features such as LED fog lamps and rear parking sensors. Driver’s will appreciate the SecuriCode keypad and a wireless charging pad.
Outer Banks Trim Level
For fun and fashion, the Outer Banks model has a painted shadow-black roof. The distinctive black grille wears its BRONCO lettering in white. Signature lighting is achieved with LED headlamps.
With roof-rack side rails, there’s greater utility. Additional safety aids on this small SUV include rain-sensing wipers and wiper de-icers.
Cabins have leather upholstery and a more refined atmosphere. Ambient lighting makes nights nicer. The automatic temperature controls are updated for separate control by the driver and front passenger.
Front-row sport contour bucket chairs are power-adjustable and power-heated. There are rubberized seat backs to help with messes. Molle straps and zipper pockets add utility.
Badlands Trim Level
This top off-roading model has a painted black roof and its own carbon-gray grille with BRONCO lettering in white. Bash plates and Ford’s front camera are on board.
For the trail, it has an off-road suspension, the more powerful 2-L engine, and a twin clutch rear drive unit. Advanced GOAT modes include mud/ruts, sand and rock crawl terrain management.
The instrument panel is updated with a 6.5-inch digital screen. The dual power chairs are covered in easy-clean cloth and backed with rubberized material.
With the premium package, this model has mini-perforated leather upholstery on two-tone seats. A B&O sound system spreads 10 speakers around the cabin.
