2024 Ford Mustang Review
Racing back for a new model year, the 2024 Ford Mustang demands attention. The emphasis is on fun, but behind that lies some serious engineering and advanced technology.
Every element was carefully considered to give it a new look inside and out. There’s an increased emphasis on customization straight from the factory.
The 2024 Mustang Dark Horse is new to the lineup. This unique ride is an exciting development that will surely draw many driving enthusiasts into the fold.
Here’s what you need to know about the all new Ford Mustang.
Exterior Colors and Style
A new look combines classic motifs with modern design capability. The first generation influences the car’s broad sprinting stance. Designers utilized a low, horizontal brow and widened rear haunches. This is furthered by a sleek roofline and shortened rear overhangs.
Up front a new grille is a flashback to the 1960s original. Familiar Tri-Bar headlights lead the way while a new tri-bar light signature takes up the rear.
There are 11 exterior colors. That should ensure that every Mustang reflects the owner’s personality. New exterior colors include Yellow Splash and Vapor Blue. In addition to the vehicle color, shoppers can add stripes and designs that have been updated with new options and colors.
A Design Series Appearance Package lets you add Sinister Bronze alloy wheels and related badging. For the first time, the Mustang Design Series is available to increase the customizations you can get from the factory.
To this mix, Ford adds the ability to choose your Brembo brake caliper color. You keep it serious with black, go flashy with red, or add a splash with Grabber Blue.
Ecoboost Performance and Trims
Still so affordable, the Mustang Ecoboost has a new four-cylinder turbocharged 2.3-liter powertrain. Modern engineering adds a new rear diffuser that assists with aerodynamic balance. A limited-slip rear axle adds a check on the rear-wheel drive.
A remarkable 10-speed automatic transmission enhances Mustang performance. You can add the performance package to add to your fun.
The standard Fastback cabin includes a special cloth interior and the new driver’s cockpit. A favorite upgrade adds Micro Suede vinyl seat inserts. In Ecoboost Premium models, ActiveX synthetic leather offers you a variety of color choices.
If you want to drop your top, you can go for the Ecoboost Mustang convertible. For temperature and sound regulation, the roof is fully insulated. It can open and close with one touch activation. Ford even manages to create segment-leading trunk space through the use of a compact roof design.
GT Performance and Trims
A new engine makes the Mustang GT even more competitive. This naturally aspirated V8 has a unique dual air-intake box to pull fresh air into the system. With its dual-throttle body design, there’s less induction loss. This way air flows at the maximum rate. For maximized power flow, this engine utilizes port fuel injection and direct injection.
In addition to the ten-speed automatic transmission, the GT offers a Getrag MT-82 manual. Rev Match assists with regular driving, but you can also use it for performance shifting. The car holds engine RPM as the clutch is engaged. This retains peak torque just when you need it most. Manuals have launch control to guarantee a fast take-off on the track.
GT models include the coupe and convertible styles. GT Premium adds many amenities, including leather seat inserts. The instrument panel and door trim are wrapped in softness and stitched for visual interest.
Dark Horse Performance
The name of this Pony car reflects on aspects of its personality. On the one hand, its V8 delivers the unexpected. On the other, the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse uses an understated look to achieve its stealth vibe.
A unique Blue Ember metallic paint adds to the mystique of this special model. As light plays across it, the unique pigmentation allows for color changes. A striking amber highlight was chosen for this Dark Horse. Among its many darkened elements, the headlights and taillights have that smoked look.
The 5.0-liter Coyote V8 and a Tremec TR-3160 6 speed manual transmission are standard with the Ford Mustang Dark Horse. Output is an expected 500 horsepower and 418 lb-ft of torque.
Dark Horse engine enhancements include forged internal components and connecting rods. These were borrowed from the Mustang GT500. A handling package and Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tires are available.
Dark Horse Interior and Appearance Package
Blue interior accents and top quality materials help set this cabin apart from the other Mustangs. The unique gear-shifter has a titanium construction. Topped with blue, this hollow knob won’t overheat from use.
There’s Indigo Blue stitching across the soft-touch door panels and center console. The theme continues with the blue stitching on the suede-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel. This sport-contoured, flat-bottomed wheel has buttons to allow you to choose drive modes quickly.
Instead of the bright silver found on Ecoboost and GT trims, the Dark Horse vents and bezels wear a dark metallic gloss called Black Alley. Every material has a luxury grain texture whether it’s leather, vinyl or carbon fiber.
Deep Indigo Blue seats are available with the appearance package. These have bright blue accent stitching on the indigo bolsters and bright blue accents under the distinctive seat perforations.
These RECARO performance seats have a black Dinamica suede insert that helps grip the driver or passenger. A black-painted roof and special hood graphics give the exterior a unique look.
Performance Package
The performance package is available on the Ecoboost Fastback and GT models. This exciting package includes Ford’s Magneride suspension to adjust to every bump faster. A new feature is active pothole mitigation that can adjust every input to meet the biggest pothole challenges.
GT and Fastback models are made stronger by a Tower Brace and tougher by a Torsen differential. They are more planted with the wider rear tires and have an extra measure of safety from bigger Brembo brakes.
Many elements of the Performance packages are brought together in the Dark Horse. As such, the new Dark Horse trim has a standard Torsen limited-slip rear axle. The automatic is paired with a 3.55:1 model and the manual is paired with an even bigger 3.73:1.
Driver’s Cockpit
With a nod to racing, a flat-bottomed steering wheel invites you to drive. Behind it, the new Mustang driver’s cockpit has a digital instrument cluster. It measures 12.4 inches, almost as much as the 13.2-inch Sync 4 touchscreen.
Owners can configure the two displays to flow together into a single display, complements of a single pane of glass. The touchscreen is angled toward the driver, and it offers the fastest way to control the radio or activate the climate controls.
If you want to enjoy animated designs and special visuals, you can customize the digital instrument cluster easily. Based on your input, different drive modes come with special visuals. To make decisions, the center stack displays a graphic influenced by the Unreal Engine 3D creation tool used for video games.
More Ways to Personalize Your Experience
With driver selectable modes, the Mustang owner can do more with every horse under the hood. You’d expect the normal and sport modes. A slippery mode helps out when the roads are wet. The real fun comes with the track and drag strip mode.
With the customizable drive mode, you can create up to six profiles. Plus the different modes correspond to different graphics which appear on the digital instrument panel.
You are essentially telling the car the kind of experience you want. Drive modes alter the engine response, change electronic stability control settings and adjust steering effort.
With the advanced automatic transmission, the drive modes alter shift patterns automatically. This adds to your confidence as you choose how you want the car to respond.
EPAS, the electric power assisted steering, is another way to control your ride. It has a selectable-effort function that lets the driver choose how much help is wanted. Settings include normal, comfort and sport.
Now that you know more, why not schedule a test drive at your Earnhardt Ford dealer?
