| The 2009 Ford Escape is a compact crossover sport utility vehicle that offers more power, a quieter ride and an upscale cabin. The revised 2009 Ford Escape delivers the best-in-class fuel economy in the small SUVs segment. For 2009, the five-passenger Ford Escape gets a new set of new low-rolling-resistance tires for improved fuel economy. The 2009 Ford Escape is offered in three trim levels: the base XLS, XLT and high-end Limited.

| Two engine variants are available on the 2009 Ford Escape: a new 170-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder drivetrain paired with an upgraded 6-speed automatic transmission or a 5-speed manual (only XLS) and an optional 230-horsepower 3.0-liter V-6 engine. Buyers have the choice of either a standard front-wheel or optional all-wheel drive. EPA estimated of the 2009 Ford Escape FWD is 20/28 mpg (City/Highway) and that of the Escape AWD is 19/25 mpg (City/Highway). The 3.0-liter Escape model achieves fuel economy of 18/26 mpg (FWD, City/Highway).
