Performance
If you drive the Escape, you’ll discover the true power of its unique turbo 3 Ecoboost engine. Generating over 180 horses, it uses stop-start feature and active grille shutters to keep fuel costs low. The hybrid powertrain increases horsepower to 200 with its blend of electric and gasoline power. Then there’s the exciting turbo four which cranks out 250 horses.
Capability and Utility
The Escape is a front-wheel drive vehicle, but many people step up to the excellent all-wheel drive system. This intelligent feature knows when its needed. The automatic transmission is a smart 8-speed. The cargo hold offers a hands-free liftgate that is foot activated. There’s lots of room for luggage with 33.5 cubic feet of space. You can push it to 37.5 cubic feet thanks to the Escape’s flexible interior. Behind the front row, you can claim 65 cubic feet.
Interior Trim Levels
The most budget-friendly trim is the S with plenty of advanced technology and about 40 inches or rear legroom. The SE upgrades the front seats and adds push button start. SEL features include ActiveX upholstery on contour bucket front seats, including a 10-way driver’s chair. If you want an SUV that checks every box, the 2022 Escape Titanium is perfect for you. Several trims let you get the Panoramic Vista Roof as an option.
Technology
A touchscreen lets you control your Sync3 system. This includes advanced voice recognition by Ford and via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto connectivity. There are so many ways to find the entertainment or information you need. The top system includes navigation on a pinch-to-zoom touchscreen.
Safety
If you are looking for the safest SUV in this price range, the Escape may be it. The SUV got all five stars from the federal crash testers. Even better, it has post-collision braking, a system almost exclusive to Ford at this point. Then there’s the collision avoidance tech that is standard across the lineup. To watch the sides, there’s a blind spot monitor, a lane keeper, and a rear cross traffic watch. Watching ahead, the Escape can warn you of stopping traffic and pedestrians.
