Technology
SYNC® 4 is at the core of the big 12-inch touch screen that allows for split screen viewing. This system can even display towing information. New this year, the 2022 Ford Expedition has an available 15.5-inch portrait oriented display. This is the largest in the Expedition’s SUV class. It’s also extremely modern with the ability to be tailored to the driver by expressed preferences and through machine learning. Part of what makes this system unique is its use of adaptive dash card technology. This allows the driver to use interactive digital cards that are more intuitive than traditional menus. Furthermore, Ford Power-up Software will allow the system to be improved. An available instrument panel is another highlight. This 12.4-inch digital gauge cluster can display more information on demand and can be used for navigation or for off-roading data. The rear entertainment system has been upgraded with the ability to harness Amazon Fire TV.
Performance
Expedition drivers can feel confident with the standard 375-horsepower engine. Since it cranks out 470 pound-feet of torque, you will always have considerable punch when you need to enter highway traffic, pass cars at highway speeds, pull a trailer, or climb a mountain road. Furthermore, you can step up to the 400-horsepower engine for an even sharper response. Ford harnesses this power with its unique 10-speed automatic transmission. To provide all of this performance while conserving energy, Ford employs stop-start tech, active grille shutters and Ecoboost turbos to do more while using less gasoline. For the Timberline edition, Ford has added a high-output V6 Ecoboost to the line up. This 440-horsepower marvel delivers 510 pound-feet of torque that can be harnessed at low speeds for off roading. You get that engine on a Limited edition Expedition with racier styling like no other.
Utility
The Expedition is all about utility. And this year it expands that capability to include off-roading. The Expedition Timberline has Trail Turn Assist. This Ford feature was first introduced on the exciting Bronco SUV. It sharpens the turning radius to make the Expedition more mobile in tight situations. The Timberline has 10.6 inches of ground clearance and rolls on hardy 33-inch specialized off-road tires. Ford borrowed the Raptor’s tough underbody shielding to protect the Expedition’s vital systems. For those who want to tow, the 2022 model maintains the SUV’s truck-like tow ratings. You can pull up to 9,300 pounds when you choose the Heavy-Duty trailering packing.
Safety
Blue Cruise is combining Adaptive Cruise Control with intelligent features that allow you to go hands-free. Offered on the Platinum edition, it utilizes such capability as Speed Sign Recognition and Lane Centering as well as intelligent Stop-and-Go. Every edition will have more Ford driver assistance and safety features. The lane watch system is now supplemented by Road Edge Detection. Intersection Assist and Evasive Steering Assist can reduce crash scenarios in tricky situations. The Reverse Brake Assist is yet another tool to avoid fender benders. For 2022, the available Pro Trailer Backup Assist has been improved with more automation. It lets you turn a control knob to move the trailer into a parking space.
