2022 Ford Explorer Review
The 2022 Ford Explorer is one of the best and most popular Ford SUVs. Family travel is easier with a large cabin, plenty of organizational features, helpful driver assistance, generous safety systems, and fun technologies. The new ST-Line is sure to be a favorite Explorer trim level. This SUV has all the flash of the ST but where that model focuses on performance, this model is richly endowed with technology and amenities. This gives shoppers two ways to enjoy the ST style. With the family-friendly price of the base edition, there’s room in the budget to climb the trim ladder. Best of all, Ford Explorer lease deals are an excellent way to start driving these family SUVs.
Interior Trim Levels
The Ford Explorer interior is marked by spaciousness and style. This family ride can seat up to seven. The driver is treated to a power chair and smart extras like a power steering column and ventilated seats. You’ll feel better about the kids knowing they have their own HVAC ducts and controls as well as the available sun blinds. If you have teenagers, they are all set with extra USB points and generous wiggle room. It’s hard to complain when the Ford Explorer interior offers 39 inches of legroom for second-row passengers. Explorer trim levels include the value-laden XLT, the racy Sport and the leather-clad Limited. Ford Explorer Platinum models are especially well appointed with amenities and materials that would be suitable in a luxury ride. Some of our favorite features are the multi-contour massaging seats and the twin-panel moonroof. If you want to see a Ford interior like no other, check out the ST-Line. There are Ebony Black seats in a rich ActiveX fabric. Micro inserts by Miko are perforated to allow for natural air flow. Red accent stitching and a sporty steering wheel style complete the look.
Technology
Explorer’s offer Ford’s exciting 10.1-inch LCD capacitive portrait touchscreen. With pinch-to-zoom capability and voice commands, it’s easy to find what you want when you need it. The ST-Line rocks out on a 12-speaker B&O Sound System. It provides a wireless charging pad for your phone. A 360-degree camera lets you watch the whole perimeter of your SUV from the driver’s seat. Performance
The Explorer Enthusiast ST is the performance edition of this well-built machine. With more horsepower and torque at your command, it really knows how to handle the road. Arizona drivers will appreciate that it now comes in a rear-wheel drive edition. This lets those of us in warmer climates enjoy European style drive uninhibited by all-wheel drive that we don’t need. The engine spits out 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. If the ST isn’t your style, maybe you would like the 400-horsepower engine on the Explorer Platinum edition. All of its engines are mated with Ford’s remarkable 10-speed automatic transmission. Your trade is probably your down payment! Value your trade.
Utility
The Explorer is a true utility vehicle. It’s got a power-operated liftgate to help you into the large cargo hold. There’s a special system with a removable floor to help you secure items. You can tow up to 5,600 pounds, making this a favorite of those who like to bring along boats, jet skis, four-wheelers, or campers. For more space, you can add roof rack rails. If you don’t need the seats, you can claim an enormous 83.9 cubic feet of space for a piece of furniture, boxes, hardware store supplies, and other big items. Safety
The Explorer now offers even more driver assistance that translates into safer travel. You can check the NHTSA to learn more about its five-star rating. New this year, Evasive Steering Assist, an exclusive Ford technology tool, works with the forward collision warning to help a driver deal with a sudden maneuver. This may be due to traffic or something unexpected, such as a box falling off of a truck. The system spots the problem, calculates the safest path, and then increases steering torque to help the driver avoid a collision. Adaptive Cruise Control and lane centering can give you an almost automated experience on the highway. Of course, there are many other safety assets such as the rearview camera system, the blind spot monitor, the rear cross traffic monitor, and more. One of our favorites is the parking assistance that takes the work out of putting the Explorer in a parking space. Wouldn’t it be fun to try that out?
