2024 Ford Maverick Review

Seating five easily, the new Ford Maverick earns its price tag by providing a sizable SuperCrew cabin. The hybrid cabin measures 100.3 cubic feet while the gas-powered editions measure 101.5 cubic feet.

Nestled in comfortable bucket seats, drivers have a whopping 42.8 inches of front legroom. On the second row, there’s an ample 35.9 or 36.9 inches of rear legroom.

If you don’t need the second row, it is perfect for storing gear. Rear folding seats have flip-up cushions to help you create a nice flat space. You can also get a dual storage bin under the rear seat.

Ford’s unique tether system lets you create your own organizational accessories. Owners can access 3D DIY solutions, if they need ideas.

Maverick exterior colors include some interesting hues like Terrain with its golden glint. Favorite metallics include a gorgeous Atlas Blue and an exciting Hot Pepper Red.

Metallic tri-coats include Azure Gray or Carbonized Gray. Additional fun shades include Shadow Black, Oxford White, Cactus Gray, and Iconic Silver. Avalanche Gray is a color unique to the XLT or Lariat Tremor packages.

On the Maverick Tremor, orange spices up the grille and adds a color contrast to the pockets of the tarnished dark aluminum alloy wheels. Headlamps and taillamps wear a special black chrome look that adds to the Tremor’s aggressive stance.

For something more mysterious, the XLT or Lariat Black Package wears blacked-out logos, a black grille, black mirrors, and special black-accented lighting. The18-inch aluminum wheels are dressed with a machined Ebony black.

Interior colors include two-tones in a dark blue or black with a dark slate gray. You can match this slate with a rich brown leather-like look. The Black package goes for black interior accents and black seats. Tremor editions have orange accents to dress up their seats and logos.

The Maverick has a 4.5-foot bed with a standard volume of 33 cubic feet. It is 54.4 inches at its longest point and 53.3 inches at its widest point. The bed can stay down while you haul, allowing for almost 6 feet of usable length.

Flexbed features, including 6 tie-down points, are standard. Ford makes it possible for owners to use those features to create their own cargo divisions, although official accessories are also available. Bed storage units and a bed extension are available to give you even more flexibility.

Tonneau covers are offered in three styles: hard rollup, hard tri-fold, and soft folding. You can add a flexible bed divider, TOUCHLINK lighting, a bed liner, a removable bed mat, and/or bed cross bars.

The standard payload capability is 1,500 pounds. The Maverick Tremor is an exception, but it can still handle 1,200 pounds. Either way, that’s ample for this size truck, and it should make weekend adventures more fun and backyard chores easier.

XL models come with your choice of engines and drivetrains. The exterior wears a black mesh grille with a black surround. Cargo standards include the Flexbed with bed tie downs and pre-wired 12-volt electrical leads.

Inside the distinctive cabin wears black onyx and medium dark slate.This two-tone interior has strategic pops of color and a unique stonelike finish on the dash panel. Helping you find the perfect perch, a 6-way adjustable driver’s chair is paired with a title-telescopic steering wheel.

The driver’s cockpit has an 8-inch touchscreen with available Sync3. This display is complemented by a 4.2-inch driver’s screen. Connectivity is boosted with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Modern touches include a convenient gear dial and dual USB ports.

Maverick Flexbed features include a helpful in-bed storage bin and four additional tie-downs. New safety features include wiper-activated LED headlamps and integrated spotter mirrors in the side mirrors.

Retaining its cool two-tone look with Medium Slate, the interior is upgraded with Navy Pier in place of black. Second-row passengers will appreciate the rear armrest.

There are special cabin upgrades with the XLT Luxury package. The cockpit can provide an eight-way power chair, heated front seats, and a 6.5-inch driver’s screen.

Maverick Lariats wear a silver grille bar, body color door handles, and 18-inch machined-face bright aluminum wheels. At night, special front and rear LED accents create a distinctive light signature.

Like the XLT, the Lariat can be dressed up with the Black Package. Lariat AWD editions can be turned into off-roaders with FX4 or Tremor upgrades.

Cabin style centers around ActiveX upholstery in an exciting desert brown. Black Onyz is another option. Technology upgrades include the voice-activated navigation Sync3 touchscreen, the larger driver’s screen, Sirius satellite radio connectivity, and a wireless charging pad. The money-saving hybrid powertrain generates 191 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque. Careful with fuel, the Ecoboost produces 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque.

Hybrids have a PowerSplit electronic CVT while Ecoboost models have an 8-speed automatic transmission. All Mavericks have four-wheel disc brakes for ample stopping power. Ford’s special electric-power assisted steering ensures better handling.

Front-wheel drivetrain Mavericks, whether Hybrid or Ecoboost, can tow up to 2,000 pounds. However, the all-wheel drivetrain Ecoboost Maverick can tow up to 4,000 pounds with the 4K Tow Package. Ford’s tow-haul mode helps the vehicle handle the weight.

Hybrids are strictly front-wheel drive vehicles. Every gas-powered trim level is offered with a choice of front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Front-wheel drive models claim 8.3 inches of ground clearance while the all-wheel drive editions claim 8.6 inches.

Ford keeps the Maverick’s weight at 3,731 lbs or less, helping it do more with every horse under the hood. Hybrid fuel economy is 40 mpg in the city while the Ecoboost models earn 25 or 26 mpg in the city, depending on whether they have AWD or FWD.

Every Maverick XLT or Lariat FX4 Package starts with all-wheel drive and 8.6 inches of ground clearance. Ready for unnecessary roughness, it has rugged all-terrain tires and special underbody protection.

The rear suspension is upgraded with stronger coil springs, sub-frame and stabilizer bars. The

mono-tube hydraulic gas-pressurized dampers provide better trail handling as well as a hydraulic rebound stop.

The powertrain has off-road-focused drive modes, such as the Mud/Rut setting. The Sand drive mode is perfect if you like to find outdoor adventures in area deserts. Hill Descent Control helps the driver handle steep downhill angles.

Maverick Tremors have a more advanced four-wheel drive system with a 4WD lock. The twin clutch rear drive unit adds a rear drive unit lock. Terrain management is easier with selectable drive modes, such as sand or mud & ruts.

Its special build includes an off-road tuned suspension with unique shocks and springs.

A heavy duty cooler helps take the heat off the transmission. That’s especially useful if you head into the Arizona desert for off-roading fun. Trail Control operates at up to 20 mph (forward) or up to 6 mph (reverse).

Front skid plates add underbody protection while the special front bumper improves approach angles. Its higher stance allows it to claim 9.4 inches of ground clearance. Helpful standards include a full-size spare tire, a trailer hitch receiver, and orange-painted front tow hooks.
