New Ford Expedition Review
The new Ford Expedition SUV is better than ever. For starters, it has a Timberline model for off-road capability. Plus, you can now get BlueCruise. That lets you drive this powerful SUV hands-free during highway travel. Truly, some of the most advanced technology in automotives today is now either standard or available on the new Ford Expedition.
You can drive smarter, be safer, enjoy state of the art technology and go off road. That’s quite a package! That’s the all new Ford Expedition.
Interior Trim Levels
Whether you choose the value-minded XL edition or step all the way up to the luxurious Platinum, the new Ford Expedition has what’s needed to serve a family. In between, choices include the XLT, Limited and King Ranch editions. And, you’ll be glad to know, these trim levels are available on both the standard and Max Expeditions.
If it’s comfort you are after, there are front row power chairs that can be outfitted with ventilation and massage. The new Stealth Edition Performance Package on the Limited trim and the Timberline have unique style cues inside and out that speak to their sportier capabilities. Check out this extended review to learn more about Expedition trim levels.
Technology
What technologies are you looking for in an SUV? The new Ford Expedition has got it. The touch screen is like a tablet. The capacitive screen allows for pinching and swiping. Of course, voice recognition can control many functions and help parents keep their eyes on the road.
The exciting new 15.5-inch center touch screen and 12.4-inch digital gauge screen offer an even more modern capability. The doors have intelligent access for simpler locking and unlocking. The temperature controls can be set and self-regulated, making a parent’s life a little nicer just knowing the kids are getting the AC or heat they need. There are plenty of USB ports to allow family members to plug in, and available WiFi for their smart devices.
Performance
The new Ford Expedition and Expedition Max models are never underpowered. Even better, they utilize Ecoboost technology and smart ideas such as active grille shutters and redlight stop-start technology. Much more than basic, the standard engine is a 375-horsepower unit that cranks out 470 pound-feet of torque. You can also step up to the 400-horsepower engine with its remarkable 480 pound-feet of torque.
With the Timberline or the Limited Stealth package, you can command a 440-horsepower engine that kicks out 510 pound-feet of torque. Ford's smart ten-speed automatic transmission takes advantage of every horse under the hood. It controls torque at low speeds for greater power at takeoff. This helps during uphill climbs, off-roading, or towing. At high speeds, the broader gear range helps the driver harness both power and velocity.
Utility
When Ford says ‘utility’, it means it. This large SUV is made to handle a family’s gear, especially when you have the large cargo hold on the MAX. When the seats are folded, the interior is cavernous. You can bring home furniture or pack up your teenager for college.
Furthermore, few SUVs can lay claim to serious towing in the way that the new Ford Expedition can. When properly equipped, these SUVs can also pull over 9,000 pounds, allowing you to bring along a camper, boat or adventure equipment. The large cargo door opens easily with a power function that also closes it for you. Ford was the first automaker to offer high-tech backup assist and an equally high-tech blind spot monitor for your trailer.
Safety
If you are a parent, then safety is probably your first concern when it comes to the vehicle you drive. That’s why Ford developed its CoPilot360™ system. You’ll have a variety of ways to avoid the situations where collisions happen.
The all new Ford Expedition now comes equipped with some systems you will have a hard time finding on rivals from other brands. There’s road edge detection to go along with the lane assistance. There’s Intersection Assist in addition to the blind spot system. There’s reverse brake assist in addition to the rear cross traffic alert, the Active Park Assist and other smart parking features. Evasive steering assist is another new standard that can help busy parents drive this big rig with more expertise and less stress.
