2021 Ford F150 Towing Capacity

Ford F150 trucks are meant to work. For many, the Ford F150 towing capacity is the most important statistic that there is. So this reviewer is taking a look at how the new truck can tow. If you want to know more, the staff at Earnhardt Ford, your Phoenix Ford dealer, has the answers.

Towing Capability Varies with Cab Choice, Engine Selection and Other Factors

Regular Cab Choices

With the smaller cab, the V6 tow rating is either 5,000 or 8,200 pounds. The Ecoboost V6 shifts that up with numbers ranging from 7,600 pounds up to 10,000 pounds. The V8 pushes tow ratings up to 9,900, 10,400, 11,200, 12,700 or 13,000 pounds. However, the Ecoboost V6 regular cab can promise 11,200-, 12,700- or 13,100-pound towing capacity. You’ll want the heavy duty package for the highest numbers.

Supercab Choices

The Supercab V6 offers seven choices with capability from 5,000 or 8,200 pounds. The Ecoboost V6 Supercab offers 13 choices with capability ranging from 8,100 to 10,100 pounds. Supercab V8s start at 10,400 and, with the heavy duty package, go up to 12,300, 12,800 or even 13,000. The diesel Supercab is rated at 10,500, but that can jump up to 11,100 or even 12,100. Supercabs with the 3.5-liter Ecoboost V6 have a towing capacity of 12,300, 13,800 or even 14,000 pounds.

Supercrew Choices

With the SuperCrew V6, the 2021 Ford F150 tows 5,100, 7,700, or 8,200 pounds. The Ecoboost V6 shifts that up with numbers ranging from 8,100, 9,400, or even 10,000 pounds. The SuperCrew V8 tow ratings are 10,300, 12,900 or even 13,000 pounds. The Diesel SuperCrew ranges from 10,400 to 11,200, depending on the exact configuration. The 3.5-liter Ecoboost Supercrew is once again the top hauler. It can pull 13,800 or even 14,000 pounds.

Hybrid F150 Towing Capability

The new Hybrid Ford truck can pull 11,000 with a 3.55 axle, whether it’s the 145.2-inch or 157.5-inch wheelbase. The towing capability is the same for both 4×2 and 4×4 trucks. With the 3.73 axle, the tow rating is 12,700 pounds with the 4×2 drivetrain and 12,400 pounds with the 4×4 drivetrain.

Choosing the Right Truck to Tow Your Load

There are several things to consider when you are looking for the best tow capability for your lifestyle. The truck’s horsepower and torque are obvious factors, but you can’t rely strictly on these numbers. The truck’s size and curb weight are factors that may affect towing capability.

The truck axle will make a difference. While a 3.55 axle ratio is good, the 3.73 axle ratio is better. You’ll want to consider the fact that rear-wheel drive trucks and four-wheel drive trucks often have different ratings.

Also, you’ll want to understand the GCWR. This is the gross combined weight rating. It’s how much your truck weighs plus the pressure of any extra added weight, including people, materials and so forth.
